Venice, perhaps the most depicted, described, imagined and critiqued city in the world, presents contemporary artists with aesthetic and ethical dilemmas. It cannot just be ‘pictured’ as uniquely beautiful, responses must also be made to the effects of climate change, tourism and depopulation.
